SAFE Stands for Ending Violence Against LGBTQIA Community
Written by Kelly WhiteAustin, Texas—The SAFE Alliance today issued the following statement in response to this weekend’s mass shooting at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Florida:
“The SAFE Alliance stands in solidarity with all those affected by this weekend’s act of terrorism in Orlando, especially the members of the LGBTQIA community singled out for violence. News reports also indicate that the shooter abused his ex-wife, and we want to emphasize our support for all of his victims, whether they be the attacker’s intimate partners or those at the Pulse nightclub on Saturday.
“We add our voice to the many, many others speaking in support of the LGBTQIA community and the residents of Orlando. We urge a national and community response that focuses on the causes of violence at all levels. We will continue to work in our local area for a just and safe community for all, free from violence and abuse.
“We will not give into fear, hate, and intolerance towards any group of people.”
