What's the Goal of SIL
SAFE’s Supervised Independent Living (SIL) program provides stable housing and comprehensive support services for young adults as they learn to live independently, gaining essential life skills in a community-oriented environment. Designed for youth aged 18-22 who are already in extended foster care or in the process of returning to care, the program supports young adults as they transition into adulthood.
Key features and benefits of the SIL program include:
- Safe and Stable Housing: Participants live in a non-college dorm or apartment setting, ensuring a secure and supportive environment.
- A Monthly Stipend: Financial assistance helps cover basic living expenses.
- Personalized Support: Individualized case management and tailored support plans help youth achieve educational, employment, and personal goals.
- Skill-Building Opportunities: Young adults develop critical life skills such as budgeting, cooking, time management, and navigating healthcare.
- Guidance and Mentorship: Participants connect with mentors, explore hobbies, and gain valuable insight from supportive adults.
- Access to Resources: Comprehensive mental health services, job placement programs, and community connections ensure holistic support.
- Advocacy and Leadership: Empowerment opportunities enable youth to advocate for themselves and their peers, fostering confidence and leadership skills.
- Planning for the Future: Assistance in creating long-term housing and life plans to support the transition into self-sufficiency.
- Community and Belonging: A welcoming network of peers and caring adults provides a sense of stability and connection.
Through the SIL program, young adults can grow in a structured yet flexible environment, balancing independence with guidance as they prepare for their future.
