SAFE partners with Austin Diaper Bank
Written by SAFEDid you know that diapers can cost families over $120 per month per child and are not covered under assistance programs?
At SAFE, we serve thousands of clients each year — many of whom have young children in their care. We not only support clients with housing, counseling, and advocacy services, but also by distributing hygiene, food, and diapers.
Without partners like Austin Diaper Bank, we wouldn’t be able to meet the our clients’ needs.
The need for diapers
Last month, SAFE distributed over 5,275 diapers to clients. And according to United Way’s 211 Helpline, diapers for babies and seniors are a top need everywhere.
Our generous Austin community donates new diapers and wipes every month, and it makes a huge difference. But at our current scale, we could not meet demand without partnering with an agency dedicated to address the need for diapers. Enter Austin Diaper Bank.
Austin Diaper Bank
ADB was founded in June 2013 after Austin mom Beverly Hamilton read an article about the silent crisis of diaper need. Hamilton learned more about the National Diaper Bank Network and its mission to diaper children across the country. When she saw the Austin area had no diaper bank, but high rates of poverty, she decided to take action and created the ADB.
SAFE has received ADB resources for many years, and in 2018, ADB named SAFE as an official Austin Diaper Bank partner! Just five years after its founding, ADB provides over 200,000 diapers a year to babies and seniors in Central Texas through partnerships with over 50 local organizations, like SAFE, in Central Texas.
